Help
Getting started
- Get an account. Go to Get an account, enter your e-mail address and choose a password. We'll send you a link. Open it to finish signing up.
- Install the app. Download it for Windows, Linux or Android. Each system has its own steps below.
- Sign in with your e-mail address and password. Tick Remember my Password and Sign me in automatically to skip this next time. To have the app start when you log in to your computer, go to Tools, Options, General.
- Add your friends. Click Add a Contact at the bottom of your contact list and type their e-mail address. They need an MSGR Reloaded account too, so send them here.
Installing
Windows
Open the file you downloaded and follow the steps. Windows may show Windows protected your PC, because the installer isn't signed with a paid certificate yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. MSGR Reloaded then appears in your Start menu.
Linux
The package is for Ubuntu 24.04 and the systems built on it, such as Linux Mint 22 and Pop!_OS 24.04. Open a terminal in the folder you downloaded to and run:
sudo apt install ./msgr-reloaded_*_amd64.deb
MSGR Reloaded then appears with your other apps. Installing through apt also installs everything it needs. Double-clicking the file can work too, depending on your desktop.
Android
Open the downloaded file from your notifications or your Downloads app. Android will ask whether your browser may install apps. Allow it for this install; you can turn it off again afterwards in Settings.
The Android app is an early test version. It uses the same windows as the desktop app, so some screens are cramped on a phone.
Can't sign in?
- "The sign-in name or password is incorrect"
- Check the address for typos, and that Caps Lock is off. If you've forgotten your password, choose a new one.
- It still says the password is wrong, but you're sure it's right
- After 5 wrong passwords in a row, your account is locked for 15 minutes to keep guessers out. Wait, then try again.
- You never got the sign-up e-mail
- Look in your spam or junk folder for a message from signup@msgr-reloaded.com. The link works for a day. If it has expired, sign up again with the same address.
- "Check that you are connected to the Internet"
- The app couldn't reach the server. If the rest of the Internet works, your network may be blocking chat. Some school and work networks do. MSGR Reloaded uses ports 1863 to 1865.
Contacts
When someone adds you, the app asks whether to let them see when you're online and whether to add them back. To stop someone seeing you or messaging you, right-click them and choose Block. They aren't told. To be invisible to everyone for a while, set your status to Appear Offline.
Right-click a contact or group for more options: move contacts between groups, rename groups or delete a contact.
Sending files
Drag a file into a conversation, or click Send Files. Your friend gets the choice to accept or decline.
When both of you use MSGR Reloaded, the file goes straight from your computer to theirs. This is faster and encrypted. If a direct connection can't be made, the file goes through our server instead. That's slower and has a size limit. You can turn direct connections off in Tools, Options, File Transfer. Your friend then won't see your IP address, but every file goes through the server.
The Discord tab
The tab with the # icon shows your Discord friends and private messages beside your other contacts. It's optional, and you don't need it for anything else.
On Linux you sign in on Discord's own page inside the app. On Windows and Android, the app asks for a Discord token instead. A token gives full access to your Discord account, so never paste one that someone else sent you.
Discord doesn't officially support third-party apps signing in to personal accounts. Read about the risk before you use this tab.
Uninstalling
Windows: Settings, Apps, then MSGR Reloaded and Uninstall.
Linux: sudo apt remove msgr-reloaded.
Android: press and hold the app icon, then Uninstall.
Uninstalling doesn't delete your account; delete it here if you want to. Your saved conversations stay on your computer in case you reinstall.
